Dane accuses Rodgers of lying to him…

Daniel Agger has accused Brendan Rodgers of essentially lying to him during his time at Liverpool, citing it as a key reason he left the club this summer.

The Dane surprisingly quit the club in August to rejoin his previous side Brondby for, what seemed at the time, an incredibly low transfer fee of £3 million.

Whilst injuries during his last 12 months at the club were thought to be the main contributing factor, in a wide ranging interview with Danish news source BT, Agger says the key reason was due to ‘hollow’ conversations he had with the manager.

“My knee swelled insanely, and I got 120 millimetres of blood sucked out of it,” said Agger to BT.

“The doctor and physical therapist told me under no circumstances should I play the match against West Ham and I said I would play, I would not give the manager reason to put me out of the big game against Manchester City the following week.

“The agreement was that the doctor and physiotherapist gave the manager the message, and the message came back was that I had to face against West Ham, so I was quite ready for the City fight.”

Those with good memories will remember that Agger didn’t play in said game against Manchester City, and the 30 year old says this was the final straw.

Agger does say that after confronting Rodgers about this the two did have a good conversation and the Boss reiterated his desire to keep him at the club.

However, the defender said that after so many broken promises from Rodgers he decided it was time to exit Anfield…

“Rodgers returned and said he wanted to keep me, and that he needed me next year. It was the first time we communicated properly in a year’s time. We had a damn good dialogue, but I did not really know if it was grandstanding. I felt that the words were a bit empty compared to what had been the season before.”

Do you believe the manager did the things Agger has accused him of? Or is this simply the Dane looking to claims his Liverpool exit wasn’t because of recurring injury?
