The Liverpool boss keeps an eye on one of our most promising academy prospects…

Brendan Rodgers attended Wigan Athletic’s game with Leeds United yesterday, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Rodgers was at the DW Stadium to keep tabs on 17-year-old academy prospect Sheyi Ojo, who is on loan at Wigan.

The winger played the full 90 minutes, but ended up on the losing side as Alex Mowatt’s second-half goal was enough to condemn the Championship strugglers to a 1-0 defeat.

Ojo has already played seven times since his loan move, but, despite some impressive individual performances, he has struggled to turn around Wigan’s fortunes. The Latics currently sit in 22nd place, eight points from safety.

However, the former MK Dons star – who joined Liverpool in 2011 – has at least offered enough to suggest that he could follow in the footsteps of Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe, who have both taken the first-team by storm in recent years.

Ojo was lighting up the academy team during the first-half of the season, convincing Rodgers and co to give him the opportunity to impress away from Anfield. And by all accounts, he’s done just that!
