Monk was a player under Rodgers at Swansea, and after our 1-0 victory last night revealed how impressed he was and how much admiration he had for his former boss with the work he was doing at Liverpool.

“He could manage at the very, very top, for sure,” said Monk, reports Metro.

“He has got the knowledge, he’s got the know-how and the capabilities in man-management.

“He’s got the package to do it at the elite of Europe.”

It can probably be assumed that Monk is referring to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona as the ‘elite of Europe’, but he perhaps does Liverpool a disservice there.

While even the most ardent of Reds fans would reluctantly concede that we haven’t been amongst the contenders for Champions League and Premier League club titles for a while, our pedigree and trophy haul is still hugely respectable.

There’s no reason Rodgers can’t reach Europe’s elite with Liverpool. We have a hugely exciting young team, and some incredible young talents coming through the ranks.

While our manager is fluent in Spanish, we can only hope that he stays around Anfield for a while yet.
