The England Under-21 forward will be a free agent when his Clarets contract expires at the end of the season, and has already been linked to Manchester United and Real Sociedad, in addition to the Reds.

Bundesliga giants Schalke are the latest side to get in on the act, with the Daily Mirror reporting their interest. Schalke, who are managed by former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo, want talks now ahead of a potential move.

Ings, who has scored nine Premier League goals so far this season, is currently with Gareth Southgate and the Three Lions second string, as they prepare for the European Championships in the summer.

He missed out on a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s England senior squad this month, but has been tipped by many as a future star of the international stage.

However, the rumours linking Ings with Liverpool in January were met with an underwhelming response from the Echo, and it’s unlikely that the Anfield faithful will be left too disappointed by this news.
