We have recently been given renewed hope that we could actually sign Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus this summer (via the Metro), and the news is drawing a real reaction on Twitter.

Reus lined up as £46m Sterling replacement

The report suggests we’re closing in on a £46m move for the German international, with the Bundesliga star seen as the ideal replacement for Raheem Sterling – who looks set to join Manchester City for a massive £49m (via the BBC).

If we pull this one off it could prove the deal of the summer, as Reus is truly world class. We have to take the rumours with a pinch of salt at the moment, as you should with any marquee signing. We have already seen this summer that we are capable of attracting top talent though, so this move certainly isn’t out of the question.

Dortmund would probably find it difficult to turn down a massive offer, and we could presumably offer Reus a hugely improved contract. The German giants also failed to clinch Champions League football this season, so there is less keeping him at the Westfalenstadion.

While some fans on Twitter are understandably hesitant, afraid of getting their hopes up and being burned if the move doesn’t come off, many are sending open letters to John Henry telling him to go all out to secure Reus’ signature though, and he really needs to take notice.
