Odds slashed on Brendan Rodgers becoming Chelsea manager

Well, this would be a turn up for the books!

The Belfast Telegraph, the same newspaper which broke the news about Brendan Rodgers joining Liverpool in 2012, claims that the Northern Irishman is now ‘in the frame’ for the Chelsea job, if Jose Mourinho gets the boot.

The report suggests Rodgers would be a ‘stopgap’ manager if keeping Mourinho proves an impossibility for Roman Abramovich. The Russian billionaire famously had success with the likes of Rafa Benitez, Guus Hiddink and Roberto di Matteo in the past – initially giving them the job for an interim period.

Rodgers had been more heavily linked to the Aston Villa job, and it’d be a mighty surprise if he were to join the Stamford Bridge outfit considering his results over the past year with Liverpool.

Chelsea though are languishing in the Premier League’s bottom six, and got knocked out the League Cup on Tuesday night to pile more pressure on the outspoken Portuguese.

Ironically, it could be Rodgers’ replacement Klopp who ultimately gets Mourinho sacked by beating him at the weekend – thus getting his predecessor a job!

Rodgers was a distant 20/1 outsider for the Stamford Bridge post but is now as short as 7/1 – though we still find it highly unlikely Ambramovich would consider him – despite the reliable source.
