Lallana says Liverpool must give team-mate new contract

Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana has joined the legions of fans, former players and pundits in urging the club to award Jon Flanagan a contract extension.

The young fullback is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer, and is actually currently available for any club outside of England to freely approach regarding a Bosman deal in the summer.

That would be a travesty considering the fact he’s been with the club since he was a small boy and is the only Scouser in the regular first-team squad.

“It’s difficult for Flano,” Lallana told Sky Sports. “But if there was even a per cent of doubt in anyone’s head, they only have to turn to what he did on Wednesday night.”

Against Manchester City, the 23-year-old marked Raheem Sterling out of the game and helped Liverpool bounce back from League Cup Final heartache to win 3-0 at Anfield.

He was superb, and his performance surely fires him ahead of Alberto Moreno, the out of form Spaniard, in the pecking order.

Sadly, Jurgen Klopp left Flanagan out of his Europa League squad, which he now admits seems a big mistake, the Echo reports.

As a result, Flanagan will be unavailable for the Last 16 tie with Manchester United, one he would have surely relished.

Klopp recently declared that “Flanno is our boy,” though, and his kind words following the City win show that he’s hopefully in the manager’s plans.

Liverpool – offer Flanagan a contract – and put this to bed.
