We’ve got a team of superstars who could walk into any team on the planet, right?

Well, perhaps not. It’s a poorly kept secret that Klopp will be having a huge clearout this summer, with only a small handful of players being 100 percent sure that they’ll still be a Liverpool player on 1st September when the transfer window closes.

Steffen Freund is the latest player to wade into the debate about the relative merits of our squad. The former Dortmund and Spurs star has named what he believes to be our two weakest links in the team – though his picks will surely baffle most Liverpool fans.

According to the 46-year-old, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho are our worst duo (via SkySports).

“The central defenders of the Reds are the weakest links – Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho. If they are under pressure, they make mistakes,” he said.

“A good start in the game would be very good. Dortmund should attack very early in the first ten minutes. They should try to force Liverpool to make mistakes.”

While it’s fair to say that Lovren was very much a fall guy towards the end of the Rodgers era, his reemergence under the stewardship of Jurgen has been nothing short of spectacular. He is now widely considered to be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Sakho also looks like a man reborn under the German – his performance in the first leg last week should leave no illusions about the quality the ex-PSG captain possesses.
