Liverpool’s 4th signing, after Karius, named by Telegraph

Liverpool have already acquired Joel Matip on a free transfer, Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade, and according to Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph, Loris Karius will wrap up a £4.7m switch from Mainz in the coming days.

After the German goalkeeper completes his Merseyside transfer, Liverpool will look to finalise Ben Chilwell’s deal from Leicester City.

The report suggests negotiations will ramp up in the next 48 hours or so, once the Karius deal is over the line.

The Premier League champions want £7m for the teenage left-back, but we’ll hope to do business for a little less.

Chilwell’s talented and has the potential to grow into a top fullback, but didn’t make an appearance in the top flight last term and only played while on loan at Huddersfield towards the end of 2015. Many Liverpool fans want an automatic improvement on Alberto Moreno, whose mistakes partly cost us the Europa League Final, and even if Chilwell arrives, would hope we target a more established name as well.

Jonas Hector, Germany’s starting left-back, has been linked, but it remains to be seen if we’ll still target the 25-year-old if we sign Chilwell.
