Key Liverpool star becomes £45m target for European giants

Philippe Coutinho is apparently a summer target for cash-rich Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain, with the French giants reportedly plotting a £45m move for the midfielder, according to Le10 Sport (via talkSPORT).

Coutinho has been steadily improving since his arrival at Liverpool, and while consistency has been an issue he has regularly shown that he’s an unbelievable talent. It’s hardly surprising that he’s being linked with a big money move away from Liverpool, but PSG also shouldn’t be surprised when we refuse to sell at any cost.

The Ligue 1 Champions are apparently looking to make a marquee signing or two this summer, hoping to replace the outgoing Zlatan Ibrahimovic. While Coutinho is pretty much as different as you can get from the giant Swede, it’s hardly surprising to hear that PSG are throwing their financial weight around merely to make a big name signing.

They have also been linked with Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain (via talkSPORT), with the Argentine forward the only player who could realistically replace Ibrahimovic.

TalkSPORT’s report suggests that PSG have already been in contact with members of Coutinho’s “entourage”, gauging the response they are likely to get should a bid be made. They plan to go ahead with their proposed £45m offer, which we will apparently most likely turn down.

Obviously if the player himself is set on leaving then it may prove difficult to hold onto him, but he seems happy at the club and we clearly don’t want to sell.

There’s a real sense of confidence surrounding the club at the moment, with Jurgen Klopp hopefully set to usher in a new era at Liverpool. We need to be keeping our best players rather than letting them go, so hopefully Coutinho stays exactly where he is this summer.
