PSG have already had hilariously low Coutinho bid rejected; Barca still want to trump French

We cannot really think of a fee, which to this date has been spent on a footballer, which would make selling Coutinho good business for Liverpool.

Gareth Bale cost Real Madrid £85m, but time and time again it’s been proven that a large transfer kitty doesn’t automatically mean you can bring in better players than the ones you’ve sold. Who could we realistically sign who’s better than Coutinho…?

At 23 and with years on his contract and the potential to develop into pretty much anything he wants to, for Liverpool, he’s priceless.

So why PSG thought they could test the waters with a £23m bid, we have no idea. Marca claim Liverpool laughed off the offer from the French giants last week, but suggest Barcelona are ready to overtake the Ligue 1 champions on the race for Coutinho’s signature.

It’s a race with no finish line though, as Liverpool are just not going to sell – the Echo claimed.

Unlike with Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling, Coutinho is happy, and has never made noises which would suggest his heart lies elsewhere. We’d be confident we can keep him ahead of PSG, but like with many South Americans – the lure of Barcelona may eventually prove too much.

They do not have a world-record breaking sum to spend on Coutinho just yet though, and we hope we can focus on exciting new arrivals this summer rather than worrying about departures – again.
