The reason we stuck ‘key’ in inverted commas in the headline is simple:
Mamadou Sakho, for us, is a key player. This much has been proven by the fact we’ve conceded five goals in our opening two Premier League fixtures without the powerful Frenchman.
But the manager and his backroom staff perhaps disagree, because he’s been put up for loan today – according to the Daily Mail among others.
The defender though has returned to full training, following an achilles injury which kept him our of pre-season. Sakho’s been training with the ball at Melwood, but perhaps more importantly – Sadio Mane has too.
We missed the Senegalese winger’s dynamism badly at the weekend, but he’s recovered from his shoulder problem and should be fit to face Tottenham at the weekend.
Here are the pair back involved, along with Ovie Ejaria – another player returning to fitness. Hopefully we’ll get through tonight’s League Cup 2nd Round and be able to see the wonderkid in action later in the tournament.
