Coutinho beats Sadio Mane to ‘Goal of the Month’ award

Philippe Coutinho has pipped Sadio Mane to the Liverpool fans’ Goal of the Month award for August.

It was his wonder freekick against Arsenal that won the accolade. We were all set to head into the half-time a goal down, but a minute into injury time the Brazilian set a freekick into the top corner from 30 yards. Three keepers would have struggled to save it.

It proved to be the impetus for our second-half fightback, as we went 4-1 up before ultimately winning 4-3.

It is the second successive season that Coutinho has won the August award after he picked it up for his late winner against Stoke last season (official site).

Mane came second with 36 percent of the vote – 10 percent behind Phil. He was also credited for a goal against Arsenal as he scored a wonderful solo effort from the right-wing.

Marko Grujic’s headed goal against Barca was third.

Did the voters get it right?
