Wijnaldum desperate to add one key ingredient back into his game

Gini Wijnaldum has said he is hoping to start adding more goals to his game.

The Dutch midfielder – who was signed for £25 million from Newcastle Utd in the summer transfer window – admits he is used to scoring plenty of times, and he misses the feeling when he isn’t finding the net.

“You get used to scoring goals,” he said (Echo)

“During the years I have scored a lot of goals as a midfielder and when you get that feeling, you always want to score.

“You’re going to have a hunger to score goals and you’re going to be greedy to score goals. That’s what I am right now.”

Wijnaldum is yet to score in either a friendly or competitive match since his move. In his defence, he has often been deployed as a deeper midfielder than he was at either Newcastle or for PSV or Feyenoord in the Netherlands.

He has had a a good start to his Reds career. While he hasn’t caught the eye with dazzling skills, he is rapidly proving himself to be a calm head in the middle of the park.

But when will his first strike come? Fingers crossed we see him put the ball in the net tomorrow against Chelsea!
