A Liverpool myth has been debunked via stats: Klopp’s Reds unbelievable from set-pieces

We’re convinced there was a point this season when fans were complaining about us not having a set-piece taker or that Liverpool were awful from dead-ball situations.

Well, it turns out we’re as good as anybody in Europe – having notched eight times so far – the joint most in any of the top five leagues!

We have however notched all four of our penalties thanks to James Milner, which definitely pads the stat, and seem to have more corners than other side from which to score. Coutinho put a free-kick into the top corner on opening day, while he assisted two goals from corners against Crystal Palace and one more verses Watford (although we’re not sure if the ‘short corner’ actually counts as a set-piece in these statistics).

Still, the next Premier League team in the list is the agricultural West Brom who pride themselves on such matters, so we’re obviously not as bad in this area as some think.

Having said that, we should have Coutinho on all corners, all direct-free-kicks and probably the majority of indirect ones as well. He’s clearly the best at it and Jordan Henderson and James Milner provide better options in the box anyway.
