Liverpool could bring in 15-stone centre-back to partner Joel Matip in defence

Jurgen Klopp wants to bolster his defensive line, which has only kept one clean-sheet in the Premier League so far, come January.

This is according to the Mirror, who suggest a winter bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s giant German centre-back Jonathan Tah is being lined up.

Tah is only 20 but physically is a monstrous specimen already, boasting over 50 Bundesliga appearances and two caps for his country at senior level.

Not only does he possess outstanding physical attributes, but he can play, too – something Jurgen Klopp demands of his centre-halves.

Joel Matip has been an outstanding signing, but doubts regarding Dejan Lovren’s long-term suitability still lurk, while Mamadou Sakho is being frozen out and Ragnar Klavan is into his thirties.

Joe Gomez is approaching full fitness and provides Klopp another option, but Tah would be a mighty exiting signing, although a very expensive one as well.

In fairness, the Mirror have also linked us to Manchester United pair Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw in recent days, so we’re not entirely convinced their reports are validated.

It’s more likely that Klopp will focus on the wing for any transfer business, with Sadio Mane going to the AFCON and missing a number of crucial fixtures.
