Likely Liverpool XI v Southampton with Adam Lallana ruled out

Our midfield supremo Adam Lallana is not going to be available for Saturday’s clash with Southampton, claims the Mail.

He’s one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team-sheet, so it’s disappointing, but in Gini Wijnaldum, Liverpool have a readymade, in-form replacement.

The Dutchman lost his place in the side to Emre Can and with the German scoring twice in his past two matches, he’d have played over Wijnaldum at St. Mary’s, but now – both should line up either side of skipper Jordan Henderson – who thankfully got through England’s fixtures unscathed.

The defence is at full-strength, with James Milner, Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren all not playing for their countries over the international break. Hopefully this means they’ll have had time to hone themselves defensively, with Liverpool only keeping one Premier League clean-sheet all campaign.

But up top, Klopp has to decide whether to start Coutinho who played twice for Brazil in South America…

Liverpool chartered a private jet to get both Coutinho and Roberto Firmino back to Merseyside in time to train this morning though, which suggests the aim is for both to start.

If this is the case, Sadio Mane will join them in our blistering front-three and Daniel Sturridge will have to content himself with a spot on the bench.
