Klopp explains unknown Grujic absence, how Can got injured & Lovren’s bravery RE hamstring

In pre-season, we were mighty excited about Marko Grujic and what the young Serb was going to offer us this campaign.

He scored goals and shone during the summer, but has barely had a look in since 2016/17 began.

We were certain we’d see the 20-year-old against Leeds in the EFL Cup quarter-final recently, but he remained on the bench, something he’s not been on at all in the Premier League recently.

It turns out he has a tendon injury, which Jurgen Klopp says isn’t serious. Hopefully, we’ll see the midfielder early next year in the FA Cup, as we can’t see him being used in the top flight nay time soon.

“The tendon goes over the muscle for Grujic, a tendon injury. It was three weeks, so he’s already on the way back,” the boss told today’s press-conference, cited in the Echo.

Emre Can missed the 2-2 draw with West Ham yesterday, and it turns out the German suffered a minor knee injury in training, but thankfully he should be back for the Merseyside Derby, if not Wednesday’s trip to Middlesbrough.

“Emre Can was a challenge on Origi, knee on knee. They could both finish training but… I’ve never heard this ligament but already damaged. I’m not sure if he’s in doubt for Wednesday, Everton he will be back sure. It will be cool if he can play tomorrow,” the boss continued.

As for Dejan Lovren, his issue is thankfully not serious either. The Croat was subbed at half-time against the Hammers for Ragnar Klavan, but it was only cramp and he wanted to play on. Having been withdrawn though, we can see the Estonian keeping his place midweek.

“Lovren was cramp, he told me he wanted to play, but I told him I want to play too and I haven’t been able to for 20 minutes,” Klopp concluded.
