Klopp latest injury update sums up how deadly Liverpool star can be

With all eyes on Philippe Coutinho’s recovery from injury, it seems many people have overlooked just how important the return of Daniel Sturridge will be.

The Reds striker is in contention to return for the Merseyside derby but there does still remain to be doubts over whether he will be ready in time for Monday.

Having a healthy Sturridge again will be a significant boost with new injuries beginning to crop up each week.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com on Friday, Klopp said: “Danny cannot be at 100 per cent but having Daniel Sturridge for 20 minutes would be fantastic.”

Klopp was also hopeful that the striker could join in with training yesterday, adding: “He’s closer to team training than he was last week and maybe we can involve him today, I’m not 100 per cent sure but it’s possible.”

“If he is available then he will be involved but we will have to see. Until now he did four pitch sessions with the rehab coach and it would be nice if he could be part of my department from today.”

20 minutes is all someone as deadly as Sturridge needs to make an impact. The ability to have him as at least a substitute would be a huge confidence boost heading into such a crucial game.

Not only does he offer the traits capable of offering something different going forward that could unlock the home side’s defence, but he also poses as a man who has played and scored in the derby on more than one occasion.

If it isn’t this weekend that he returns, then hopefully it is the next. We cannot wait to see him back on the score-sheet again.
