Adam Lallana only has one Liverpool player in his fantasy football team and it’s not himself

I haven’t done fantasy football this season after coming heart-breakingly close to the money in the Euro 2016 game (I only stood to win a few quid but missing out still took a lot out of me emotionally).

However, many football fans – and indeed ballers too – are still hooked by the craze, including Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana.

The former Southampton star generated plenty of points in December, scoring four goals and providing two assists, but he didn’t benefit from those points personally (not in the fantasy world, at least).

Lallana has revealed that he only has one Liverpool player in his team and it’s not himself.

“It’s great fun, a lot of the lads play it,” he said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“There’s about 30 or 40 of us in the league. I won it last year, but I’m mid-table this year.

“I’m only allowed one Liverpool player because apparently I have got inside information into our team week in, week out.”

When asked who that player was, he replied: “Firmino! I’ve been loyal to him all season.”

Lallana added: “I think I have (been good value for £7.5m). It’s probably been a bit of a mistake not putting myself in at times. I don’t want to get carried away, put myself in and go on a drought.”

There will be no fantasy potions on offer this weekend as Liverpool take a break from the Premier League to begin their bid for FA Cup glory.

Plymouth Argyle are Sunday’s visitors to Anfield, where Lallana may be given a rest, with manager Jurgen Klopp likely to rotate his squad against League Two opposition.
