Look how Wayne Rooney voted as Coach of the Year…

Toffee fan, boyhood Everton player and Manchester United legend…

There’s nothing more anti-Liverpool than Wayne Rooney, on the surface.

He is good friends with Steven Gerrard and in fairness, hasn’t done anything too offensive in many a season, but he’s never going to be welcomed with open arms at Anfield or applauded onto the field.

So it seems odd that the 31-year-old named our manager Jurgen Klopp as his 3rd choice for FIFA Coach of the Year, behind Chris Coleman and Claudio Ranieri!

We wonder how much Jose Mourinho will appreciate the news…

In 2016, Klopp took us to the final of the League Cup and Europa League, as well as masterminding our best ever start to a Premier League season in 2016/17.

Captains from Angola, Mozambique, Malaysia, Somalia, Thailand, Ukraine and Armenia voted Klopp as their no.1 Coach of the Year, but the only Liverpool representative in the vote, Ragnar Klavan, ignored the German – opting for Ranieri, Santos and Zidane instead!

We’re sure Liverpool’s manager won’t mind too much. In fact, he’d be embarrassed by such recognition, preferring to win as a team with his backroom staff and players.

Hopefully, that might become a reality this term.
