Liverpool midfielder’s next transfer move could be a very, very romantic one

Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas could leave Europe for good and rejoin his boyhood club Gremio, reports the Echo.

The 30-year-old has been continuously linked to other teams, notably Inter Milan and sides from Turkey, but it could be that a romantic return to South America is on the cards – likely in the summer come the end of this season.

Jurgen Klopp wants to keep Lucas until the summer as cover, and agent Metin Korkmaz claimed this was the reason Klopp stopped Lucas moving to Galatasaray a few weeks back.

Lucas has been with us since 2007, when Rafa Benitez signed a then gangly attacking midfielder from Gremio. In the years since, Lucas has moved further back into a midfielder, an anchorman and is now a utility centre-back under the manager’s guidance.

Klopp’s relationship with Lucas is a positive one, but our longest serving player deserves more minutes than he’s currently getting – so we’d back him to leave come June – after he’s had the testimonial he’s entitled to for ten years service at the club.
