Roberto Firmino misses Brazil training; doubtful for Paraguay clash

Roberto Firmino’s chances of starting for Liverpool in Saturday lunchtime’s Merseyside Derby appear slim, as he’s currently ill in South America with a throat infection…

Our no.11 did excellently during his country’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay and was expected to start against Paraguay tomorrow evening, but he’s missed training and manager Tite is going with Diego Souza alongside Coutinho and Neymar in rehearsals…

This is according to @BrazilStat, a Brazilian football expert, on Twitter.

Daniel Sturridge is still injured, meaning if Firmino can’t get better in time for the Everton game, Divock Origi seems the obvious option.

The Belgian has struggled badly in 2017 and recently gave an interview in his homeland stating his discontent at a lack of chances, but when he has been allowed minutes, he’s not impressed.

Considering Firmino has a long-haul flight to navigate as well, we’re not holding out too much hope he’ll return in prime condition.

Origi was injured in the same fixture against Everton last year of course, when Ramiro Funes Mori scythed him down with a horrible challenge during our 4-0 humiliation of the Bitters.
