(Video) Charlie Adam embarrassed as he manages to handball his own corner kick

Look away Roy Hodgson!

Poor Charlie Adam.

The former Liverpool midfielder has had a hard life. At least, he looks like he has, wearing the face of a 60-year-old man at the age of just 31.

Stoke City star Adam was given a bit of a raw deal last night as referee Kevin Friend penalised him for handball when he was trying to take a corner!

Adam slipped and fell onto the ball, before using his hands to put it back in position.

But, instead of allowing him to take the corner properly, Friend and his linesman conspired to award a free kick to Burnley, who went on to beat Stoke 1-0.

Considering players often use their feet to adjust the position of the ball before taking free kicks, it does seem harsh that Adam would get punished for falling onto it.

He clearly hadn’t taken the corner consciously, so surely a ‘retake’ would have been fair?
