Liverpool teenager bags perfect hat-trick for Under23s

Harry Wilson? Ben Woodburn? Rhian Brewster? Trent Alexander-Arnold from right-back…?

None of the above, as it happens!

Last night, Toni Gomes bagged a perfect hat-trick for the Under-23s as they thrashed Mansfield Town 4-1 in an end of season friendly.

The 18-year-old notched once in the first and twice in the second, with Lloyd Jones, back from loan at Swindon, getting the other.

The star of the show though, despite Gomes’s hat-trick, was Cameron Brannagan, back from loan at Fleetwood. He controlled midfield and had a part to play in all of our goals.

The Englishman doesn’t have a future under Jurgen Klopp, but we’re certain he’ll go on to have a good career somewhere. He’s technically excellent and is completely composed in possession.

He needs to stay fit and find a club where he plays regularly and a manager that encourages good football.

As for Gomes, he may still have a chance, although 17-year-old Brewster has usurped him in the pecking order.
