‘We could be top’- Istanbul hero advises Jurgen Klopp to target Kylian Mbappe

Vladimir Smicer has staked his claim for outlining perhaps the most ambitious transfer deal for Liverpool to pursue in the upcoming transfer window.

The former Reds midfielder has hailed Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe as a player he believes could drive Liverpool to the Premier League title.

In doing so, he also reaffirmed the importance of his old club recruiting a star striker to match that of their rivals.

“I think we need a striker,” Smicer told the Liverpool Echo.

“Daniel Sturridge has had a lot of problems this season. I thought he would be our main striker like Diego Costa at Chelsea, Zlatan Ibrahimovic at United and Harry Kane at Tottenham.”

“I think we’ve missed this type of player. It’s probably cost us the title. If we had a striker who had scored 20 goals plus, who knows? We could be top.”

“I like the Monaco striker Mbappe. He’s only 18, but what I’ve seen from him has been really unbelievable for such a young player. Everything looks so natural to him. I like the way he plays. He would definitely be very expensive.”

“All the big clubs in Europe will chase him so it would be difficult to get him, but if I was the Liverpool manager I’d go for him.”

Whether it is Mbappe or someone else, the arrival of a star forward and notable goalscorer would certainly light up Liverpool’s transfer window.

The focus towards strengthening the spine of the team must include adding goals and giving the Reds a perhaps more orthodox and prolific focal point.

Mbappe is admittedly ambitious considering the interest a number of elite European sides have shown in him yet he marks the kind of prospect Liverpool should be eyeing up. A high calibre and clinical leading frontman.

Introducing this kind of player to a setup with creativity and attacking power in abundance would be a significant step towards this club mounting a serious title challenge next season.
