Liverpool reportedly move a step closer to first major summer signing

Speculation surrounding Liverpool’s reported interest in Roma winger Mohamed Salah is seemingly materialising with the Reds reportedly moving close to agreeing a deal.

The Egyptian’s agent is already in England and has reached an agreement Liverpool, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, as translated by the Metro.

All that supposedly stands in the way of the deal taking place is Liverpool agreeing a fee with Roma, who are demanding £30.4m.

Clues have been mounting with regards to a deal for Salah with the player’s agent recently fuelling rumours with an Instagram post indicating he was about to fly to England.

Salah has been identified as a primary forward target and the man capable of fulfilling Jurgen Klopp’s desire to add another winger having seen Sadio Mane fit his system so perfectly.

The 24-year-old scored 15 goals and registered 11 assists for Roma last season having reinvented himself at the Italian club over the past few years following a disappointing spell with Chelsea.

His pace and directness makes him equipped to adapt to Liverpool’s explosive attacking style of play and, in turn, bolster the dimension Mane added in his first season on Merseyside.

It’s worth taking the latest developments with the good old ‘pinch of salt’ given the source, yet there is a feeling that a deal is looking increasingly likely for a player capable of providing Liverpool with some much needed width and strength in depth.

£30m will understandably seem excessive to a number of fans but hefty price-tags are something Liverpool will have to accept if they are to experience the productive summer transfer window they require.
