The future of Daniel Sturridge has so far lived up to expectations this summer and emerged as a talking point equal in importance to the arrival of new signings.
Liverpool’s star finisher had been tipped for an Anfield exit throughout much of last season having endured another injury-plagued campaign and seen Roberto Firmino consolidate his place as Jurgen Klopp’s first choice striker.
Despite suggestions of a departure and apparent interest from Paris Saint-Germain and West Ham, though, it now looks likely he will stay put with Klopp set to block the sale of the 27-year-old.
A bright finish to the 2016/2017 campaign appears to have been enough to once again convince supporters his elite expertise in front of goal are worth keeping hold of.
To produce in the club’s decisive final two games and thereby at a time when it mattered most posed as a reminder of not only how valuable his talent is, but also his experience.
Keeping a proven goalscorer at a club that boasts an array of attacking assets can do no harm heading into what is showing signs of becoming most competitive the Premier League season yet as well as a potential Champions League campaign.
Reds fans have taken to social media to have their say…
Sturridge will play 20+ games in the Prem This season & he’ll score 15-20 goals easily!! Remember this tweet #GoalMachine #LastChance #LFC

No point selling Sturridge in my opinion. He is a quality player when fit but clubs won’t pay big money to take a chance. So keep him #LFC

Pleased that it looks like Sturridge is staying, I do get really frustrated with the injuries but love the quality he can produce when fit

Glad we’re keeping Sturridge, if he can stay fit all season…. he’ll easily be one of the best strikers in the prem

I completely agree that if there is no fitting replacement for Sturridge, just keep him. If he stays fit… oh boy, he can demolish a team. pic.twitter.com/OJSSYeTc9g
