Liverpool fans have responded brutally to Dejan Lovren’s abysmal display in Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham at Wembley.
The Croatian was primarily at fault for the Reds going 2-0 down within the first 15 minutes, and was subsequently replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the 31st minute.
Lovren’s first error came in the fourth minute when he failed to track the run of Harry Kane, who was granted the space to slot home with ease. 1-0.
The defender was punished again minutes later when he missed a simple header to allow Kane acres of space to start an attack that eventually led to Heung-Min Son doubling his side’s lead.
Despite pulling a goal back through Mohamed Salah before half-time, Jurgen Klopp’s men were guilty of more poor defending later in the match and shipped two more goals.
Reds were in no mood to pull punches after the game, with many eager to see Lovren dropped from the team.
There were also requests that Sunday’s horror show be his last game in a Liverpool shirt.
Something has to change, without doubt. Now is the time to give young Joe Gomez a run in the time at centre-back.
