Liverpool bizarrely linked with swap deal for ex-Everton forward

Ludicrous transfer rumours are the last thing Liverpool fans will be welcoming amid an ugly period for the club.

The Spanish media have yet again been at hand to fuel the speculation linking Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, this time proposing the inclusion of a player as part of a deal to lure the Brazilian to the Nou Camp.

Jurgen Klopp would supposedly be keen on receiving winger Gerard Deulofeu in exchange for Coutinho, according to Don Balon.

The latest rumour is one worth dismissing without any hesitation.

Deulofeu endured an unproductive loan spell at Everton in 2013, before spending the next season at Sevilla, where he was similarly unsuccessful.

He then signed for the Toffees on a permanent deal in 2015, but was sent out on loan to AC Milan last season.

The Spaniard has since returned to Barcelona, who re-signed him during the most recent summer transfer window.

He marks the latest of a number of players belonging to the Catalan giants supposedly set to be used as bait in an attempt to sign Coutinho.

Another rumour to laugh off and another reminder of just how unreliable the reports emerging from Spain have been during the long-running saga.
