Andres Iniesta is one of a number of Barcelona players who do not want the club to purchase Coutinho, reports Spanish outlet Diario Gol.
The article suggests that the legendary midfielder, as well as Ivan Rakitic, are against the mammoth potential transfer as they feel their spots in the team would be threatened – especially with Paulinho, Sergi Roberto and Denis Suarez already competing for places.
As much as we’d like to believe this report, we think it’s complete rubbish.
If there’s one player who doesn’t need to be worried about his position at Barcelona it’s Iniesta, who’s only behind Lionel Messi in terms of importance (on and off the pitch) to the Catalans.
Plus, Iniesta and Coutinho could easily fit into the same midfield, either side of Sergio Busquets. And if not, Liverpool’s Brazilian could play on the left.
Iniesta is an elder statesman of the game and there’s simply no way he’d petulantly try to stop Barca signing such a blatantly world-class player.
We have no idea what Diario Gol are playing at, here.
