Danny Ings scored four goals on Sunday as Liverpool’s U23s cruised to a 7-0 win over Bristol City in the Premier League Cup.

The striker had completed his hattrick by the 21st minute before assisting Yan Dhanda, who made it 4-0 heading into the half-time break.

Ings’ fourth came early in the second-half, with Conor Masterson and Harry Wilson also adding goals to complete the rout.

The No.9 opened the scoring for the Reds when he picked up Matty Virtue’s incisive pass before slotting calmly past the City goalkeeper Max O’Leary.

His second came after some excellent link-up play with Wilson, whose pull-back provided Ings with an easy close-range finish to make it 2-0.

Ings registered the treble in style as he ran onto a loose ball before superbly curling home from the edge of the box.

The 25-year-old’s fourth proved to be another clinical finish as he reacted first to the rebound from Jon Flanagan’s driven effort.

The goals have been coming for Ings, with the forward having seen two cleared off the line in the recent win over Manchester United’s U23s.

He has been in superb form for Neil Critchley’s side this season and continued his admirable fight to regain a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

It won’t be too long before he gets his chance to impress, having demonstrated an incredible work ethic during his recovery from a second knee injury in two seasons with the club.
