Liverpool drew Porto in the Champions League Last 16 this morning, managing to avoid the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the process.
In our history, we’ve faced the competition winners from 2003 on four occasions in competitive matches and are so far unbeaten.
In the 2000/01 UEFA Cup, which we went on to win, we draw away and won 2-0 at home, while coming out on top in 2007/08 as well.
This time, we drew away and spanked the Portuguese giants 4-1 at Anfield, thanks to goals from Fernando Torres (2), Steven Gerrard and Peter Crouch.
Here was our starting XI from that day in November 2007, over a decade ago now.
Liverpool: Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Arbeloa, Benayoun (Crouch 71), Gerrard, Mascherano, Babel (Kuyt 85), Voronin (Kewell 63), Torres.
Subs Not Used: Itandje, Riise, Lucas, Sissoko.
What a spine!
Liverpool have been drawn against FC Porto in the last-16 of the Champions League.
The last time both clubs met ended in a 4-1 win at Anfield for the Reds back in 2007, with Fernando Torres scoring twice. pic.twitter.com/ThyzSDAFqf
