Liverpool have agreed a £75m transfer with Southampton for Virgil van Dijk, who looks set to become the most expensive defender in the history of football.
The Telegraph published the exclusive report this evening, just days before the transfer window officially opens, suggesting he’s almost certain to arrive at the beginning of January.
The Reds were competing with Chelsea and Manchester City, two of the richest clubs in the world, for his signature, but appear to have won the race thanks to the gargantuan offer.
Van Dijk has been left out of Southampton’s last three Premier League XIs, indicating a transfer was likely, but according to the report, Liverpool have moved very quickly to wrap up proceedings.
According to Jeremy Wilson, the Dutchman will pen terms on around £180k/week, desperate to work under Jurgen Klopp after the German initially van Dijk his version of the club in the summer.
A 5-0 win on Boxing Day and this on the 27th…?!
Happy Christmas, Reds!
