7-goal, 7-assist winger house hunting in Liverpool last week – Journalist

According to beIN Sport journalist Mohammed Al-Wadahi, Riyad Mahrez WAS house hunting in Liverpool last week and the reports surrounding a potential medical at Melwood WERE genuine.

The 27-year-old has seven goals and assists apiece in the Premier League this season, re-finding the form which fired Leicester to the title in 2016.

The club refuted these suggestions and this morning, Get French Football explained how the Algerian’s reps falsified the claims to bolster interest in their client.

But Al-Wadahi has promised beIN Sport’s sources were very good, but that something came up at the last minute to scupper a deal…

“The news of the transfer to Liverpool is a very reliable source of much more than the player’s agent,” the beIN Sports journalist tweeted.

“He did not publish it until I received the green light from the same player who started looking for a house in Liverpool and was ready to move to Liverpool for a medical examination after he was told.

“At the last moment there were things I would come back to later.”

Sounds like Al-Wadahi is covering his back, to us.

If Mahrez was in the city ready to undergo a medical, we’d have known about it.

Remember, the Liverpool fanbase tracked Jurgen Klopp’s plane from Germany and worked out which silver Mercedes van would be picking up potential signings from John Lennon Airport – we’d have found out!

We think Mahrez is a no-go, but reckon the club will do all it can to get Naby Keita early. Thomas Lemar is available for £61m, but would be surprised if we bought the Frenchman as well.

If we had to, we’d suggest no enforcements will be signed this January, sadly.
