Roberto Firmino has been shortlisted for the January Goal of the Month award thanks to his audacious chipped effort in Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Manchester City.

Few goals better typify the Brazilian’s gloriously unpredictable and illusive style of play, although his more recent finish from a tight-angle against Huddersfield also serves well in showcasing his ingenuity.

The no.9 faces stiff competition from elsewhere in the league and can be voted for at Carling.com.

Firmino’s strength to hold off John Stones and subsequent finish triggered immediate comparisons to Robbie Fowler’s similar goal against Manchester United in 1995.

It’s been a superb season all-round for Firmino so far, with the forward having scored 19 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.

This marks his most productive campaign since arriving at the club and one in which he finally appears to have diminished doubts surrounding his talent elsewhere in the league.

Jurgen Klopp has also been nominated for the Manager of the Month award after consolidating Liverpool’s position in the hunt for a top-four finish.

The Reds started January by finding a dramatic stoppage-time winner away to Burnley on New Year’s Day, before inflicting Manchester City’s first Premier League defeat of the season.

After suffering a shock 1-0 loss to Swansea, Klopp’s men finished the month with a convincing 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

The win over Everton and defeat to West Brom in the FA Cup were not accounted for during the decision-making.
