Coutinho was so desperate to join Barcelona because he wants to win trophies before his career is up.
The 25-year-old didn’t win any silverware while at Liverpool and his last trophy of any sort was the 2010 Coppa Italia with Inter Milan – eight years ago.
The Brazilian has claimed that with Barcelona, he can now start racking up the achievements.
“It wasn’t possible in the summer, but we worked so that it could be done in winter,” he told Spanish media, cited in the Echo.
“I really want to win big titles, it was the reason that made me sign for the club.
“I want to win as many as I can, I don’t have preferences.”
In truth, he’s probably right, short-term. Since 2006, Liverpool have won one League Cup, which in reflection, is a pretty barren 12 years considering what happened early on this century.
Meanwhile Barcelona are romping to La Liga, meaning he’ll get a medal, and are favourites to win the Champions League, too – although he’s cup-tied and can’t participate.
Liverpool need to start winning things or we’ll continue to lose our best players. It won’t be long before Real Madrid are turning Mo Salah’s head – and unless we can compete financially and at the business end of the Champions League – he’ll demand an exit.
