Liverpool receive huge boost in Tuesday’s training session

Nathaniel Clyne has handed Liverpool a timely boost to their strength in depth ahead of a defining stage of the Premier League season.

The right-back was pictured featuring in Tuesday’s training session having recently stepped up his rehabilitation by reintegrating with the senior setup during the club’s Marbella training camp.

Clyne hasn’t played since Liverpool’s pre-season clash against Tranmere, but was added to Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League squad at the beginning of February thanks to his improved condition.

Though he is unlikely to return in time for Saturday’s meeting with West Ham at Anfield, the Englishman could be in line to make his comeback at some stage before the end of the campaign.

Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold have shared the workload admirably in Clyne’s absence, leaving the more experienced latter with a tough task of breaking back into team once fully fit.

The pair have been subject to regular rotation by Klopp courtesy of the varying strengths that could see them line up alongside one another in the coming years.

Gomez has been favoured arguably as the more reliable defensive option, with his traits as a central defender making him a standout figure as part of Liverpool’s ever-scrutinised back four this season.

That said, he has also teased his well-rounded game with bursting runs into the final third and an excellent delivery to match on certain occasions.

Alexander-Arnold undoubtedly marks the more offensively-inclined alternative, drawing on the technical ability he crafted whilst growing up as a midfielder to serve as a useful outlet down the right-hand side.

With Clyne edging closer to his return, Liverpool look set to be stacked at right-back.
