Look no further than Gianluigi Buffon as the man every goalkeeper in world football aspires to earn respect from at some stage in their career.
Roma’s Alisson can tick that achievement off his list after becoming the subject of high praise from the Italy and Juventus legend.
The Brazilian has been in stunning form in Serie A this season and attracted notable interest form Liverpool in the process as Jurgen Klopp seeks to acquire an elite shot-stopper during the summer transfer window.
Reds have little to work with in terms of knowledge of his achievements prior to the current campaign, with Alisson having only signed for Roma from Internacional in July 2016.
He also spent the early stages of his career win Italy as understudy to Wojciech Szczęsny before eventually overtaking the Polish international, who now interestingly plays for Juventus.
Buffon said: “Alisson is a surprise only for those who haven’t seen him before. What really strikes me is how he deals with dangerous situations so efficiently,” as reported by Roma’s official club website.
“That gives his team a lot of confidence.”
Alisson marks the elite keeper the footballing community believes Liverpool are short of in their bid to compete for the Premier League title.
Doubts over Simon Mignolet have evolved into a wide-spread expectation that the Belgian is now on his way out of the club after another unconvincing season.
The former Sunderland man lost his starting spot to Loris Karius earlier this campaign, although the latter is similarly still yet to reassure the majority that he is fit to be Liverpool’s no.1.
An alternation between predominantly nervy moments and glimpses of his talent has left fans keen to see the club dedicate a significant chunk of the summer transfer kitty to signing Alisson.
It is the signing this summer and perhaps the one position restricting Liverpool from taking the next step up.
