Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos has confirmed that Premier League parties are indeed interested in his client, after the 26-year-old like a post on Instagram that spoke up the chances of him joining our midfield for 2018/19.
However, he suggested no deal had been agreed or an offer even formalised yet, with Jorginho solely focussed on Napoli’s attempts for Serie A glory.
The Italians are currently four points off Juventus with five games to play, having not won the title since 1990 (the same drought we’ve had to endure, actually).
“We’ll talk about his contract situation at the end of the season,” Santos told RMC Sport, translated by Football Italia.
“If the club wants to do something, we are ready to talk after May 20.”
“Jorginho is happy at Napoli, he is first choice in a team that is challenging for the Scudetto.
“He is also first choice in the Italy squad, so it’s only normal some English clubs will ask for information. Having said that, there is nothing official.”
Liverpool require a new no.6 this summer and Jorginho seems to fit the bill perfectly in terms of his attributes.
He’s a tremendous passer and possesses excellent vision, which enables him to spray the ball to onrushing forwards at will. In this respect he has more guile than Jordan Henderson and can pass the ball more intricately between the lines, although lacks our captain’s dynamism.
Injuries to the Englishman and the fact Emre Can is departing though proves we need an elite new midfielder to arrive.
Jorginho might just be the man.
