Ronaldo lets Salah join the ‘Messi/Ronaldo’ debate

Mo Salah was sadly denied the opportunity to influence the Champions League Final by Sergio Ramos.

Our best player was injured early on and as he exited the field, our play became far less dynamic and we ended up losing 3-1, for reasons everyone knows.

But Cristiano Ronaldo has still lavished our no.11 with praise, following the Egyptian’s incredible season.

Salah bagged 44 goals altogether, all the more impressive considering only one came from the penalty spot and he starts on the right wing.

“Salah has been one of the revelations of the year,” Ronaldo told Goal.

“I hope his injury in the final in Kiev doesn’t keep him out.

“Many people talk about the battle for the Ballon d’Or between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but there are other players who have a chance to enter the race. Salah is certainly one of them.”

If Salah has an incredible World Cup, he’s in genuine contention for the Ballon d’Or.

Either Lionel Messi or Ronaldo have won the award, which is for the best player on the planet, since 2007, but Salah’s campaign for Liverpool makes him a candidate for 2018.

Egypt won’t win the World Cup, but if Salah scores goals and his country get to the knockout stages, he’ll have strengthened his case.
