Fabinho squad number confusion explained; Brazilian doesn’t want no.3

It’s a little odd that Fabinho has yet to be given an official squad number!

The summer signing has been wearing no.2 throughout pre-season, but according to the Echo, it’s not something he wants long-term…

They suggest he’s actually after the no.2, which he donned at AS Monaco, but Nathaniel Clyne is its current occupier.

The Echo report that Fabinho might actually be waiting for the no.22, which will only become vacant when Simon Mignolet leaves the club…

The Belgian is likely to depart, with Turkish Football stating he’s closing on a transfer to Besiktas, due to the arrival of Alisson at Anfield as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.

So we reckon that once Mignolet is out, Fabinho will be announced as our new no.22 – although he may take the no.2 at some point in the future if Clyne ever moves on!

It’ll be this point when supporters who want his name and number on the backs of their strips can get it printed.

We’re looking forward to Jordan Henderson returning to action as it’ll be interesting to see how he dovetails with the summer signing.

The pair of them will be able to provide us a platform, which will unleash Naby Keita, who also has defensive nous himself.
