We’re very eager to hear what David Lynch has to say this season.
The journalist worked with Liverpool for many years before this summer taking a role at the Evening Standard. For this reason, we hope he’ll provide us with lots of inside information about the club he has incredibly close ties to.
And last night he penned a piece which included a segment that we found especially interesting…

Klopp actually beat Mourinho to one of his summer signings (not Fabinho)
Lynch has claimed that the reason Fabinho isn’t getting minutes right now is because he’s too defensive – and is being taught to play further up the field by Jurgen Klopp.
“Klopp spent much of the pre-season period attempting to coax his new midfielder further up the pitch at Melwood, effectively reprogramming the defensive instincts that saw the 24-year-old drop between his centre-halves at Monaco,” he said.
“The German expects more than that from his deepest midfielder, and reiterated last week that he is happy to iron out such flaws before throwing Fabinho into his team.”
This is a little odd, as many believed one of Liverpool’s biggest problems was not having a naturally defensive midfielder to call upon at no.6!
Now we have one – Klopp’s trying to make him more offensively minded…
Still, it’s not for us to question the manager’s judgement. He’s obviously seen a terrific player in Fabinho, someone who performed incredibly in the Champions League for AS Monaco during the 2016/17 season.
And at 24, Fabinho can adapt his game and become tactically smarter.
Having said that, we can’t wait to see him in action. Perhaps our first EFL Cup game will be a good opportunity, as it was for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain last season.
