LFC boosted as Southampton can’t field best player at Anfield

Danny Ings has taken to life at Southampton like a duck to water, scoring three Premier League goals so far.

He would have been an automatic starter against us at Anfield this Saturday, but due to the fact he’s technically on loan this season, although Southampton are obliged to make it permanent next summer, Ings is ineligible.

Only two other players have scored Premier League goals for Southampton this term, so they’ll be significantly weaker without the English forward.

As a result, Charlie Austin and Shane Long are likely to play up top together.

In the same fixture last season, Mo Salah scored two excellent first-half goals, before Coutinho capped off a 3-0 victory. We’d be delighted with a similarly easy 90 minutes tomorrow!

We reckon Jurgen Klopp will bring Roberto Firmino back into the side centrally, with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah either side. The goalkeeper and back-four picks itself, but the boss has a decision to make about the three central midfielders.

Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita are competing for the spot next to Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner.
