Carra names Liverpool’s best player this season and he’s spot on

Jamie Carragher has been a big fan of Virgil van Dijk ever since the Dutchman moved to England from Scotland.

This season, the giant central defender has been quite superb, playing a huge role in our excellent start to the Premier League, which has seen us win six games and draw one.

Carra reckons he’s been our best player this term, and we wouldn’t argue. The only competition is from either his central defensive partner Joe Gomez, the new goalkeeper Alisson or possibly James Milner, who in fairness has tailed off the past few weeks.

“I think Liverpool look really solid, and they have since he came in,” Carra began, cited in the Metro.

“Opposition teams now look at Liverpool and they don’t see that weakness defensively they’ve seen before in Klopp’s team.

“The front three, who have been absolute superstars for Liverpool, aren’t quite firing the way they were last season.

“I’m sure that will come in the coming weeks and months but certainly, at the other end of the pitch, they’re doing their job.”

Liverpool were atrocious last night, but we almost got away with a 0-0 draw because of van Dijk and Gomez at the back.

Gomez is improving on a weekly basis and thrives alongside our defensive leader van Dijk.

Together, they have incredible speed and strength, confidence on the ball and an ability to either step out or pass, both short and long.

The rest of the team let them down last night, bar Alisson, so we really hope the midfield and attack is back on song for Sunday’s clash with Manchester City.
