Manchester City stopper Ederson has praised Alisson and claimed his Brazilian teammate is currently ahead of him in the pecking order at international level.

Our no.1, who during the summer became the world’s most expensive ever goalkeeper, until Chelsea bought Kepa, starts in Tite’s net, while Ederson sits on the bench.

Ederson told Globo Esporte: “I think there is a lot of similarity between the two of us, he is having a very positive start to the season at Liverpool. Here he is one step ahead of me, he played in a World Cup but that’s not a reason to work less.

“Brazil is well served for goalkeepers, many who have not been to the World Cup are very good. Those who are picked will do a good job.”

In fairness, Ederson is also top notch. Like Alisson, he has tremendous distribution and fantastic composure – but he’s arguably a less renowned shot-stopper.

For that reason, we’d have Alisson every time.

In the Premier League this season, Alisson’s conceded only three goals. At the same time last term, after eight games, we’d let in 12!

Of the new signings, Alisson is the only one who’s an automatic starter right now.

Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri have been predominantly used from the bench, but following the international break, we expect to see the trio more often.
