The Reds’ back four has been lavished with praise by Rio Ferdinand, who described them as ‘mouthwatering’.
Ferdinand has been particularly impressed with the central defensive partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez – but then, who hasn’t been impressed with how the pair have performed this season?
Speaking as a pundit for BT Sport, the former Manchester United man said: “In terms of speed on the ground in the Premier League this season, Gomez and Van Dijk, they’re [two] of the top five pacesetters.
“This game today, you need pace to survive and these two have got it in abundance. This is a mouthwatering back four.”
Praise for our defence is music to our ears – especially when you consider some of the teams we have already played this season.
Yesterday’s draw with Arsenal was a tough one to take – but the two at the heart of the back four certainly provided lots of positives.
