Ahead of tonight’s match against Watford, captain Jordan Henderson has left a rousing speech in the matchday programme.
The Reds are looking to at least maintain their current 1-point lead at the top of the table with a win over the Hornets.
Writing for the official matchday programme, Henderson states that, “knowing the team is so, so strong defensively is the perfect basis to work from going into games – and gives everyone confidence on the pitch.”
“I know there will be focus on whether we are the same attacking and creative threat, but again, these questions were asked before and we’ve always found the answer.”
The Reds’ ability to consistently keep clean sheets, despite the recent absences of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren, will hopefully enable our attacking and creative players to start to flourish again. The improvement shown by summer-signing Naby Keita will be key to this rediscovery of attacking form, with the Guinean starting to integrate himself as a key creative outlet.
We expect the Guinean to start this evening, despite being dropped for the 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
Though the Reds have come under scrutiny for their stale attacking play of late, there is no doubt that we have the quality to silence the critics and claim a crucial victory against a good Watford side.
