Superb goal in Liverpool’s U23 game; Oxlade-Chamberlain returns from injury

In a game that features Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-awaited return from injury there was a goal from another promising Liverpool star.

Curtis Jones nicked the ball from a defender and tucked one in to put Liverpool’s U23s 1-0 up against Derby County’s youngsters.

Jones’ goal was his first at U23s level; the 18-year-old Scouser showed good awareness to pounce on a defensive mistake to slot home as they look to win with Oxlade-Chamberlain in starting eleven.

Ox managed 41 minutes for the U23s before his number was called but it’s great to seem him back out on the pitch after so long off it.

It will still be a few weeks before Ox sees first-team appearances come his way, with Jürgen Klopp planning a potential return to Premier League action for the midfielder after the international break this March.

Goalscorer Curtis has been with us since U9s level and made his U23s début in January 2018. Since then, the youngster has impressed Klopp and was called up to the senior side in the summer of 2018 for most of our pre-season friendlies in the USA.

The talented, young midfielder made his first team début early in January this year, starting for the Reds in the FA Cup third round tie away at Wolves.
