Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has suggested Liverpool are the best team remaining in the Champions League.
He believes that Manchester City are better than Barcelona, but thinks the Reds are even better than the pair of them.
This kind of chat won’t be welcomed by Man United fans – van Gaal was a bit of a cult hero for the Mancs, but has gone on to annoy them with what he says in interviews since departing the club.
“People think Barcelona are the best but they are not. Manchester City and Liverpool are more of a team than Barcelona – and Liverpool are more of a team than City,” he told BBC – as per Goal.
“In my philosophy, the best team shall win but I hope for City because they play the best football.”
He really does throw his foot in it. United fans will boil up when they hear van Gaal waxing lyrical about their two biggest rivals.
The former United manager has actually had two stints at Barcelona – from 1997-2000 before returning to the club on a short term basis from 2002-03.
It’s hard to disagree with the fella; Liverpool and City have been impeccable this season. The Reds now sit atop the Premier League table but the Citizens have a game in hand.
